The current Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Russell Wise, is a veteran of sorts with more than 25 years of industry experience of this role. In 2004, he became a founding member of Volicon, where he led the organization to market leadership and built the company’s sales organization by signing significant deals. He also held senior-level positions at Verizon Digital Media Services after its acquisition of Volicon.

“We started our first global delivery center in Coimbatore in 1996 to cater to investment research services/financial analysis for the investment research industry. In 2003, Digital Nirvana ventured into learning management services for the education industry, then we set up our second global delivery center in Hyderabad to cater to media monitoring and analysis services. In 2008, we launched MonitorIQ, a media monitoring and compliance solution, followed in 2015 by AlphaStreet, a social ecosystem for the investor community.”

One Digital Nirvana client, a major U.S. television network with a large volume of sports programming, needed the ability to generate highly accurate and FCC-compliant captions for prerecorded content. Time is of the essence because the FFC mandates that compliant captions must be applied within 8 hours of the program’s original airtime. Considering the large-scale user consumption of highlights and montages over the internet, this became a cumbersome task for one of the biggest broadcasting houses in the country. For this customer, maintaining an in-house captioning team was neither practical nor cost-effective.

For closed caption providers, this situation was a scheduling nightmare since the flow of volumes was unpredictable, with a very large number of clips being generated on busy days and none on other days. This, coupled with the fact that closed captions must be turned around at a much faster pace and integrated into the broadcaster’s existing workflow, meant the solution had to have high availability and reliability. Not meeting the timelines would result in heavy penalties.

The key points that made a difference were primarily seamless scaling to meet the demand of increasing content volume and cloud-based AI ML technologies resulting in cost reduction, saved time and improved productivity. Direct API integration with existing enterprise production systems was also a notable feature that stood out.
