MonitorIQ™ Broadcast Monitoring System: Compliance Logging, Content Repurposing, QC / Loudness Monitoring and Alarming for Television Networks and Stations

NEWARK CA USA 11 JULY 2011 — Over the past two years, Digital Nirvana quietly penetrated many – if not most – of the major national broadcast and cable networks in the United States, and now is in the process of commissioning several large (soon to be announced) projects in Europe. These broadcasters deployed MonitorIQ due to its advanced technology and the companyʼs willingness to work closely with them to design and quickly implement needed features not available from other systems. IBC2011 marks the companyʼs first time exhibiting at IBC in its own stand.

MonitorIQ Broadcast Monitoring System:

The smart choice for multi-channel signal monitoring, logging, compliance, archiving and content repurposing for television networks, cable MSOs, stations, and regulatory agencies. All MonitorIQ systems accept ASI/IP, HD/SD-SDI, DVB-T/C/S2, ATSC/QAM and NTSC/PAL, recording audio, video, VANC metadata and captioning in both hi-def and low-res. Control is via web or iPad browser interface. Searching is easy, based upon keywords, titles, subtitles, descriptions, textual metadata, closedcaption text and imported logs, with filtering by time, date and channel. Recordings can be easily edited, clipped, stored and sent via email or FTP in a wide range of formats. b provides cost-effective recording of up to four channels, with optional BS.1770 loudness monitoring. Multiple systems can be linked with a central management system.Built-in tuners automatically switch channels based upon a recording schedule. MonitorIQ Producer makes it easy to re-purpose content to the web, produce podcasts, and save broadcast-ready clips for archiving. This all-in-one system includes video editing, annotation and collaboration. MonitorIQ Diagnostic/QC provides logging, monitoring and alarming, internally and from external systems, content verification comparison of programmes at multiple points in the release path, and export of recorded transport streams for external analysis.

ITU Loudness Monitoring and Logging

MonitorIQ now offers loudness monitoring and logging completely integrated into one comprehensive Broadcast Monitoring System. Metering and logging is to the ITU BS.1770-2 standard to assure and demonstrate compliance with the EBU R128, US CALM Act and ATSC A/85 regulations. Includes Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby E decoding using SurCode for Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby E.

Apple iPad Interface

Enables access of all MonitorIQ functions on an Apple iPad: Viewer, Program Guide, Schedules, Search, Admin settings, and more. The MonitorIQ iPad implementation uses HTML5 for display of one video at a time.

MonitorIQ is much more than a broadcast logger; itʼs an all-in-one scaled network appliance integrating:

  • Full broadcast resolution HD or SD programme recording and viewing
  • Compliance logging and archiving at both full-res and low-res
  • User-friendly content repurposing editing, annotation and publishing
  • ITU BS.1770-2 audio loudness monitoring, logging and alarming
  • Engineering diagnostics/QC with SNMP and email reporting of user-settable out-of-tolerance conditions
  • Importing of traffic, as-run and custom logs, with click-to-view

MIQ records multiple channels of full-resolution SD/HD audio, video, VANC metadata and captioning. Extensive search capabilities make it easy to locate a particular segment, play it, edit it, generate a cut clip, and send it. One network uses MIQ to record their programme at multiple points in the release path as well as the download from the satellite and off-air from the local O&O. In the case of a glitch, they can precisely locate where in the path the failure occurred. MIQ also provides them with an emergency broadcast-quality recording of their 24/7 transmission. A leading worldwide cable news network uses MIQ in several ways. MIQ records all of their transmissions, and within seconds of broadcast, a news production team reviews, edits, and sends clips for publishing on their news website. At another facility, MIQ records 24/7 broadcast quality from multiple fixed cameras across the city, allowing them to easily retrieve edit and air video of fast-breaking news. One major broadcast group uses MonitorIQ at each of their O&Os to record all of their release path feeds. At their national operations center, management accesses each system to verify quality and as-runs.
